Details: After identifying that there was a large leak at the top of their funnel, the growth team at Duolingo began brainstorming ideas for how they could stop it.
Their idea of a fix might sound counterintuitive, but by allowing users to first experience Duolingo without signing up (do a lesson and see the set of skills that you can run through), they increased the sign-up metrics significantly. The team moved the sign-up screen back a few steps, leading to about a 20% increase in DAUs.
